Werner Tübke

With a total of 288 self-portraits in Werner Tübke’s paintings, drawings and graphic works, the self-portrait occupies a prominent position in his oeuvre. The earliest selected drawings in the catalog, published on the occasion of his 2016 exhibition at Galerie Schwind Leipzig, show Werner Tübke in his 20s. Executed in ink, charcoal or graphite, they not only demonstrate Tübke’s exceptional drawing skills, but also his talent for capturing the essence of the sitter – in this case himself – in the portrait.
