Rink. Exhibition – Painting and drawing

“I love the figures I paint. It is never primarily social criticism. In the tradition of allegory, it’s about beauty, the art of seduction, in the Brechtian sense about vanity, violence and pain,” says Arno Rink, one of the protagonists of the Leipzig art scene, about his work.Arno Rink (* 1940) studied under Tübke and Heisig and was instrumental in the development of a painterly style that later became the famous “Leipzig School”. Rink played a formative role during his time as Rector of the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig and as a teacher of Neo Rauch, Michael Triegel, Tilo Baumgärtel, Tim Eitel, Christoph Ruckhäberle, David Schnell and others. From his early work, in which his engagement with Surrealism and New Objectivity can be heard, to the nudes, portraits, studio scenes and landscapes of the 1970s to the present day, this volume presents all facets of his paintings and drawings.
