Leipzig is a hotspot for the visual arts. Discover over 50 works from the New Leipzig School, renowned artists from Leipzig who trained there at one of the oldest art academies in Germany. The focus is on figuration and craftsmanship. Highlights from the collection of the Drents Museum in Assen will be on display, including works by Ulrich Hachulla and his student Matthias Ludwig.

To mark the 100th birthday of Peter Ludwig, the Ludwig Gallery in Saarlouis is showing works of East German art from the Ludwig Collection. In addition to his pioneering collecting activities, important works by artists from the former GDR will be presented. The exhibition shows works by over 35 artists - including Wolfgang Mattheuer, Willi Sitte and Werner Tübke - and reflects the diversity of artistic forms of expression in the 1970s and 1980s in the GDR.

Following a positive decision by Unesco, the Cranach-Triegel altarpiece can remain permanently in Naumburg Cathedral - but in a different place than before. The retable is to be placed in the north transept in future. This location is considered the best option because the work will have its own, dignified space within the cathedral.

In memory of the Peasants' War events of May 14 and 15, 1525 near Frankenhausen, part of the state exhibition "freiheyt 1525. 500 Jahre Bauernkrieg" is being held at the Panorama Museum Bad Frankenhausen under the title "Der Welt Lauf". The exhibition focuses on the art-historical examination of contemporary historical sources and their artistic treatment in the monumental painting by Werner Tübke.

The Münzmeisterhaus project space in Corburg is showing works by Matthias Ludwig, Jan Dörre and Falk Gernegroß in collaboration with the Stahlberg Collection from April 26 to June 30, 2025. 14 paintings by the three Leipzig artists will be on display.

A tour in the presence of the artists will take place on April 26 at 3 p.m.

A new publication was recently published by Kerber Verlerg. Behind Closed Doors presents 55 further works from the Stahlberg Collection, which is housed in the Lichtenstein Tower in Coburg and has been growing steadily since the 1980s.

Friede Springer was awarded honorary citizenship of the city of Berlin at a ceremony in the Rotes Rathaus on February 26. Her extensive social commitment in Berlin and her services to strengthening German-Israeli relations were honored.

The portrait of Friede Springer for the Gallery of Honorary Citizens in the House of Representatives was created by Leipzig artist Michael Triegel.

On the occasion of the 100. On the occasion of Bernhard Heisig's 100th birthday, the Museum of Fine Arts is organizing a cabinet exhibition dedicated to the painter and co-founder of the Leipzig School. The exhibition focuses on the extensive holdings of paintings and prints from the museum's own collection, which were supplemented in 2009 by permanent loans from the Peter and Irene Ludwig Foundation.

The exhibition will be on display from March 20 to June 9, 2025.

The Suermondt-Ludwig Museum in Aachen is hosting a survey exhibition of the Leipzig artist from March 9 to June 15, 2025. Over 50 paintings from the artist's oeuvre will be on display. Highlights of the exhibition include his portrait of Pope Benedict XVI (2010) and the much-discussed design for the central panel of the Cranach Altarpiece in Naumburg Cathedral (2022).

The opening will take place on March 8 at 6 p.m. in the museum.

THE MINSK Kunsthaus in Potsdam is showing the exhibition IM DIALOG - Hasso Plattner Collection: Art from the GDR in spring 2025. The second presentation of the collection focuses on dialog as an approach to the art of the former GDR.

The exhibition shows around 50 works from the collection by artists such as Ulrich Hachulla, Rolf Händler, Bernhard Heisig, Wolfgang Mattheuer, Willi Sitte, Werner Tübke and others, mainly from the period from 1966 to 1992.

The landscape around Leipzig is an important constant in the works of the writer Wolfgang Hilbig and the painter Wolfgang Mattheuer. In this publication, published by Wallstein, Martin Ehrler examines the links between Mattheuer's landscapes and Romanticism, among other things. The book comprises 286 pages with 26 illustrations.

The works in the collection of the Panoramamuseum Bad Frankenhausen are recorded in this 238-page catalog and classified in terms of art history by the director Dr. Gerd Lindner.

The new online exhibition "Silent Intensity. The World of Günther Blau" at the Museum Kunst und Kulturgeschichte Marburg, offers an overview of the work of the artist, who interpreted the world in a quiet and at the same time very haunting way. The Middle Rhine Museum in Koblenz is showing the exhibition "Dream Landscape - Nightmare Landscape" from 12.10.2024 to 9.3.2025!

From 02.03. - 16.06.2024 the Roentgen-Museum Neuwied presents a special exhibition with around 60 selected works from the art collection of the Krüger Museum Foundation. From December 2023, the Naumburg Altarpiece will once again be on display in the west choir of Naumburg Cathedral, as UNESCO has now decided and the state of Saxony-Anhalt has announced.

The Opelvillen Rüsselsheim Art and Cultural Foundation is showing the exhibition "Daphne without Apollo" from March 13, 2022 - July 31, 2022.

The show presents works from the Klöcker collection that depict transitions from one living being or object to another. For thirty years, the married couple Maria Lucia and Ingo Klöcker from Bad Homburg have been collecting art with a personal focus: depictions of women. In the meantime, they have been able to collect a wide variety of paintings, drawings, graphics, photographs and sculptures from the post-war period to the present day, which show surprising positions and striking transformations.

Among others, works by Ulrich Hachulla, Erich Kissing, Wolfgang Mattheuer, Werner Tübke and Arno Rink will be shown.
