1930

1937-45
Attending elementary school
1945-49
Apprenticeship as a radio mechanic and work in the profession. Confrontation and confrontation with modern art banned by the Nazis. Friendship with Karl Hermann Roehricht. Begins his own drawing and painting work. Enthusiasm for Expressionism, artistic experiments in this direction.
1949
Escape to the Federal Republic of Germany, return. With the help of Max Schwimmer, he is released from his work obligations in the mining industry and admitted to the Leipzig School of Applied Arts. Worked in the GISAG foundry until the beginning of the academic year and studied under Walter Münze (decorative painting). Friendship and collaboration with Kurt Dornis.
1951
Application and admission to the Association of Visual Artists. Freelance work; time of self-discovery; intensive study of nature (landscape, portrait, nude), mainly drawing, hardly any painting due to unaffordable painting materials. New friendships (Arnd Schultheiß, Heinz Müller, Dietrich Burger).
1954
Admitted to study at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste Berlin-Charlottenburg through Karl Hofer.
1956-60
Studied under Hans Jaenisch (foundation course) and Ernst Schumacher (painting). Exploration of abstract art, final decision in favor of realism.
1960
Completes his studies, returns to Leipzig, marries. Freelance painter and graphic artist. Works as an exhibition graphic artist, leads painting and drawing courses at the Leipzig adult education center. Deals with problems of composition and space; continues with the theme of “urban landscape”, increasingly incorporates the human figure.
1975
Lectureship at the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig
1980
Assistant in the Department of Basic Studies in Painting/Graphics; 1986-1992 Senior Assistant
