Werner Tübke, one of the founding fathers of the Leipzig School, and Michael Triegel, one of the leading representatives of the New Leipzig School, are united not only by their obvious mastery of their craft, but above all by a lively love of fabulation. Both artists create pictorial worlds in which set pieces from ancient mythology, biblical salvation history and art and cultural history from Dante to Bronzino are taken up, recombined and reinterpreted. In the guise of a supposed old mastery, their pictorial content is condensed and reveals their contemporaneity, indeed their “radical modernity”, as Eduard Beaucamp calls it. The catalog is published on the occasion of the exhibition: Werner Tübke / Michael Triegel – Two Masters from Leipzig, in the Kunsthalle Rostock and in the Kunsthalle Jesuitenkirche Aschaffenburg.
