On November 13, the Leipzig painter Michael Triegel presents the designs for the thermal windows in the castle and parish church of St. Maria, Köthen. This is the first time the artist has designed church windows. Two three-part windows are created, one for the eastern gable and the second for the west gable of the church. In terms of content, the work deals with Mariannic themes. The eastern window focuses on the Annunciation and Pieta and the western thermal window on the Assumption of Mary into heaven (the Coronation of the Virgin). www.st-marien-koethen.de

From October 28, the Fabrik der Künste in Hamburg will be showing an extensive exhibition of paintings by Halle painter Willi Sitte. To mark the 50th anniversary of his canonization on 22 January 2013, the Pallottine community commissioned a new portrait of its founder, Vincent Pallotti (1795-1850). One of the most important artists of the Leipzig School, Michael Triegel, took on the challenge of painting a man of whom no portrait exists from his lifetime. Using only the death mask and extended stays in Pallotti's rooms in Rome, the painter created a work that shows the priest in the last days of his life and thus allows something of his inner self to shine through. On October 24, 2014, the painting was ceremoniously unveiled in the presence of the artist at the Pallottine Provincialate in Friedberg.

On August 15, 2014, böhlau Verlag will publish a scholarly publication on Tübke's self-portraits from 1940 to 2004 entitled "Ich spiele mich, wie ich bin". In this book, Annika Michalski undertakes a fundamental reassessment of his art and his life in the cultural politics of the 'workers' and peasants' state'. She analyzes almost 300 self-portraits and embeds them in the current discussions about art in the GDR and Tübke's biography.

On Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 6 p.m., the exhibition celebrating the 250th anniversary of the HGB will open at the Museum der bildenden Künste. The exhibition documents the development of the university's artistic positions since 1947. Among others, works by Werner Tübke and Wolfgang Mattheuer will be on display.
