born on July 30 in Schönebeck/Elbe
1945-46
ten months of innocent imprisonment by Russian security forces during the occupation
1946-47
Apprenticeship as a painter in Schönebeck with attendance at the master school for German craftsmen in Magdeburg, specializing in painting
1948-49
Studied at the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig (with Elisabeth Voigt, Walter Arnold, Ernst Hassebrauk, among others)
1950-52
Studied art education and psychology at the Ernst Moritz Arndt University of Greifswald
1952-54
Research assistant in the fine arts department at the Central House for Amateur Art in Leipzig; joined the Association of German Fine Artists in 1954; exhibition debut
1955-57
Assistant, from 1956 senior assistant in basic studies at the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig; dismissed for political reasons
1962
Reinstated as senior assistant at the Leipzig Art Academy; appointed lecturer in 1964, appointed professor in 1972
1973-76
Rector of the Leipzig University of the Arts
1976
Contract signed for the panorama painting for the Peasants’ War Memorial in Bad Frankenhausen, Thuringia
1985
Honorary doctorate from the University of Leipzig
1987
Completion of the panorama painting in Bad Frankenhausen (started in 1983), official opening in 1989
1993-96
Work on the winged altar for the church of St. Salvatoris in Clausthal-Zellerfeld in the Oberharz (April 1997 altar consecration)

Werner Tübke dies in Leipzig on May 27
Posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor of the City of Leipzig

Brigitte Tübke-Schellenberger founds the Tübke Foundation Leipzig

The Städel Museum Frankfurt am Main acquires the painting “Self-Portrait with Palette” from 1971 as a gift from a private collection, Frankfurt am Main
2010
Brigitte Tübke-Schellenberger donates 24 sketchbooks by Werner Tübke from the years 1950 to 2002 to the Leipzig University Library.
