In GDR times, the Leipzig painter Arno Rink was very well connected, even the head of state Erich Honecker courted him. But he consistently refused to work as an informer for the Ministry for State Security. His resistance paid off. After reunification, Arno Rink was the only rector of an art academy in the new federal states to be allowed to keep his post.
