On March 8 at 10 a.m., the Leipzig painter Dr. h.c. Michael Triegel will be speaking from the pulpit in St. Michael’s Church. The title of his speech is “Between the visible and the invisible. Shaping what cannot be grasped.” This idea has long accompanied him in his work, which is characterized by biblical and religious motifs. In his speech, he will reflect on what moves him when he paints religious themes. A documentary film documenting the creation of Cranach’s Marian altarpiece in Naumburg Cathedral is currently showing in cinemas. In 2025, Michael Triegel was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Leipzig Faculty of Theology for his work. His speech on March 8 is part of the series of pulpit speeches in the Michaelis-Friedens-Kirchgemeinde entitled “Between black and white – orientation in confusing times”. By organizing the series, the congregation hopes to contribute to discovering nuances and breaking down polarizations.
