The exhibition at the Kunsthalle Rostock shows around 100 drawings from the years 1941-2002 by the Leipzig painter Wolfgang Mattheuer and thus marks the beginning of a series of personal exhibitions that will take place on the occasion of his 100th birthday in 2027. The drawings come from the artist's estate, which comprises several thousand sheets, and show impressions of Mattheuer's numerous trips to Germany and abroad.

On March 8 at 10 a.m., the Leipzig painter Dr. h.c. Michael Triegel will be speaking from the pulpit in St. Michael's Church. The title of his speech is "Between the visible and the invisible. Shaping what cannot be grasped." This idea has long accompanied him in his work, which is characterized by biblical and religious motifs. In his speech, he will reflect on what moves him when he paints religious themes. A documentary film documenting the creation of Cranach's Marian altarpiece in Naumburg Cathedral is currently showing in cinemas. In 2025, Michael Triegel was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Leipzig Faculty of Theology for his work. His speech on March 8 is part of the series of pulpit speeches in the Michaelis-Friedens-Kirchgemeinde entitled "Between black and white - orientation in confusing times". By organizing the series, the congregation hopes to contribute to discovering nuances and breaking down polarizations.

The Willi Sitte Gallery in Merseburg is showing an extensive exhibition of over 50 works by the Halle artist Willi Sitte from February 21 to June 21.

The opening will take place on Saturday, February 21 at 2 pm. Prof. Dr. Peter Arlt will introduce the exhibition.

For several years, director Paul Smaczny accompanied the artist Michael Triegel during the creation of the Naumburg Altarpiece. The result is the film "Triegel meets Cranach - Painting in the Conflict of Times", which will be released in German cinemas on February 5, 2026.

From January 8 - May 7, 2026, the Helvetia Art Foyer in Basel is showing an exhibition of works from the Helvetia Art Collection, including works by Sven Hoppler, an intervention by Monica Studer and Christoph van den Berg and iconic everyday objects from past decades.
